The Wrong Man

I met up with George Norris at The Hepworth Arcade in Hull to recreate a scene from The Wrong Man  a 1956 American docudrama directed by Alfred Hitchcock based on a true story of mistaken identity an innocent man goes on the run in this classic film noir thriller. Many thanks to Beasley’s Clothing in Hepworth’s Arcade for the loan of the splendid hat featured in the shoot.

The Wizard of Oz

Emma Palmer’s favourite film is The Wizard of Oz which she used to watch as a child with her grandfather it’s still her go to movie if she’s feeling under the weather. We decided to shoot Dorothy in the old town in Hull with the City of Culture office in the background as ‘this really doesn’t look like Kansas’.

Rick talks about the shoot in his own words here:

As a film buff, this Hullywood project was something I really wanted to be part of, I’m also Hull born and bred and if you asked some of my family and friends what film I would recreate they would answer “probably some science fiction film”, so it will be a surprise for them to find out I’m actually going to recreate classic scenes from the Film Noir genre.

I really like the monochrome look of those films with spies, detectives, criminals and beautiful femme fatales, using silhouettes and shadows to create a certain look.Working with Quentin has been very collaborative as he suggested that we use Hull fair as a backdrop to recreate the classic big wheel scene from The Third Man starring Orson Wells and Joseph Cotton. This British Noir film was directed by Carol Reed who went on to produce the musical Oliver. I’m really proud of Hull and I think this is a great way to promote the positive side of the city.

Wonder Woman

Wandering around Hull fair at lunchtime after a morning of very heavy rain looking for locations for the Wonder Woman shoot for Hullywood Icons with Tricia Boulton in full costume was tremendous fun. The Fair people were amused and intrigued  by the sight of Wonder Woman and allowed us to use their stalls and rides as settings for the shoot.

Tricia got really interested in Wonder Woman as a direct result of her teenage daughter’s love of Cosplay taking her daughter to many events and conventions Tricia decided that she might as well join in the fun.

Here are some more shots from the shoot …

Elf

Andy Train contacted me about shooting a scene from Elf one of my favourite Christmas movies for Hullywood Icons I couldn’t resist the invitation. The shoot which took place on a very wet thursday morning coincided with the news that Hull was to be the first ever city to host the UK Pride event in 2017,  a week-long festival, celebrating the lesbian, gay and trans community. As one of the organisers Andy’s phone was red hot with press calls however this did not stop his elvish antics at The Vintage Cafe on Chanterlands Avenue who hosted this shoot.

Roman Holiday in Hull

Anna Dinsdale approached me saying that she would like to be Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday her favourite film. We set out to recreate the scene by the fountain in Hull town centre and on the one on the Boulevard. I asked Anna why she liked Roman Holiday so much and she told me that as a child it was her grandmother’s favourite film. Anna’s Grandmother was a milliner and loved Audrey’s style so made Anna many dresses and hats as a child. Anna still has a love of fifties style clothes to this day and loves visiting Rome when she has the opportunity.

Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman

Nancy Wilson got in touch with me saying that she would love to recreate a moment from the Hollywood B movie ‘The Attack of the 5o foot woman’ but in Hull. We had great fun doing the shoot for the images in her back garden using a green screen.

Nancy really loves the film Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman  a 1993  film based on the 1958 film of the same name. Directed by Christopher Guest and starring Daryl Hannah and Daniel Baldwin, the strap line for the movie poster ‘People always called Nancy the little woman ……they’ll never do that again’. Has particular resonance for Nancy who is a feminist and retired British and European champion body builder. Below are some pictures from her world beating days…
