Isabelle Tracy nominated her long time friend Dave Burnham to be Johnny Cash played by Joaquin Phoenix in Walk The Line as he is the lead singer in Hull Band Keep it Cash I managed to create this Hullywood Icon in a quick 20 minute shoot before he started sound checking in Fruit for a gig that night.

Quentin Budworth on Hull Daily Mail’s Santa Naughty or Nice list

I was extremely flattered to be included in The Hull Daily Mail as number 18 on the Santa’s naughty or nice feature on saturday for my project Hullywood Icons. In fact I jumped up and down with excitement much to the amusement of two Star Wars Troopers I was photographing. Here is the link to the online version on the HDM website and some still images of the print piece

and here is my bit from the website…

Quentin Budworth Number 18

The Hull photographer’s Hullywood Icons project – using Hull folk to recreated their favourite movie moments – has put a smile on a lot of faces this year. For that reason alone he is very much on the nice list. We can’t wait to see the finished product projected onto the side of various Old Town buildings as part of the 2017 Made In Hull launch season.

Pirates of the Caribbean

When Kevin Young asked if he could play Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin McNally) from Pirates of the Caribbean and that we could use the amazing HMS Pickle for the shoot I knew I had to find a Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). I put a call out on Facebook and thankfully Gareth Hughes who lives on a boat said he would love to do it. Many thanks to Malcolm owner of HMS Pickle for his incredible hospitality and support during the shoot.

Ghostbusters: Answer the Call

Georgina Garton got in touch with me about playing  Melissa McCarthy  (Abby Yates) in Ghostbusters: Answer the Call she suggested Ye Olde White Harte Hull’s most haunted and historically significant pub as a venue. Little did she realise that we would be dealing with real ghosts on the shoot!

Ghostbusters (alternatively known as Ghostbusters: Answer the Call and marketed as such on home release) is a 2016 American-Australian supernatural action comedy horror film directed by Paul Feig. Written by Feig and Katie Dippold, the film stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth. It is the third feature film in the Ghostbusters franchise and serves as a reboot to the previous films about four women who start a ghost-catching business in New York City.

A third Ghostbusters film had been in the various stages of development following the release of Ghostbusters II in 1989. As a result of original cast member Bill Murray’s refusal to commit to the project and the death of fellow cast member Harold Ramis in 2014, Sony decided to reboot the series. Much of the original film’s cast make cameo appearances in new roles. The announcement of the female-lead cast in 2015 drew a polarized response from the public and Internet backlash.

Elle Driver (California Mountain Snake) Kill Bill

I love a great baddy and Andreya Nancy Young chose a corker… We used Rayner’s Bar on Hessle Road as a location to channel Andreya’s inner Elle Driver (played by Daryl Hannah).

Elle Driver, a.k.a. California Mountain Snake (portrayed by Daryl Hannah), is another swordswoman who is loyal to Bill. Elle and The Bride despise each other immensely, and it is implied that their mutual hatred came to be before the events of the film. Elle is jealous of The Bride’s status as Bill’s lover, implying that Elle herself also had some kind of sexual relationship with him. Despite this, Elle does grudgingly respect The Bride, describing her as “the greatest warrior [she] had ever met” and also believing that she deserved better than to have supposedly met her end at the hands of someone like Budd.

The Wolverine

I’m a sucker for a good super hero so when Richard Hall called about recreating the marvel super hero Wolverine it was a yes from me. With Les Drake (a filmmaker working on a documentary about the creation of the Hullywood Icons and wise-cracking Alex, a journalist from the Yorkshire Post in tow we recreated Wolverine for the Hullywood Icons.

In the film, which follows the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, Logan travels to Japan, where he engages an old acquaintance in a struggle that has lasting consequences. Stripped of his healing factor, Wolverine must battle deadly samurai while struggling with guilt.

Napoleon Dynamite

When Nanette Thompson got in touch about recreating a scene from Napoleon Dynamite as Pedro with her fiance Lee Halls as Napoleon Dynamite I couldn’t say no. We used Wyke College as a location.

The Big Lebowski

When my eldest son Zeb said can I do Jeffrey ‘The Dude’ Lebowski on the toilet from the Coen brothers cult classic The Big Lebowski – I had to say yes! Zeb is writing the ‘Score of Scores’ for the Hullywood Icons projections and here he is as ‘The Dude’ played by Jeff Bridges in the film.
